What is UnBought and UnBossed?

UnBought and UnBossed is more than just an event; it’s a tribute to the spirit and determination of the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. Chisholm was the first African American woman elected to Congress in 1968 and the first woman and African American to seek the democratic party nomination for President of the United States in 1972. Chisholm declared herself a representative of all people and was committed to serving as a leader who would remain “Unbought and Unbossed.”

Since its inception in 2004, this event has become a beloved tradition in Hamilton County, drawing support from companies, professionals, and community leaders. Thousands have come together over the years to celebrate and honor female leaders who exemplify the Girls Inc. mission of being Strong, Smart, and Bold.

2024 Sneaker Gala & Silent Auction Recap

On May 4, 2024, we proudly celebrated 20 years of UnBought and UnBossed (UBUB), a milestone that marked not just the longevity but the evolution of this signature event. To honor this occasion, we transformed our traditional luncheon into an exciting evening event, a Sneaker Gala & Silent Auction. In keeping with our tradition of highlighting and honoring phenomenal women, we awarded the Sole Award in four key areas: STEM, Education, Advocacy, and Media.
